Bakshi Babu was a very rich man. By God’s grace he could buy anything he wanted. He had the biggest cars, a huge mansion, an army of servants, expensive clothes, and everything else that money could buy. But, there was one thing he searched for frantically and unfortunately there was no way he got it. He was looking for ‘HAPPINESS’. No amount of shopping or parties gave him what he truly desired.

Fed up of not being happy, he decided to go alone on a holiday. With nothing planned, he left his home. After travelling the entire day, he reached a faraway mountain, by late evening. He was amazed at what he saw! The sunset was beautiful and the lush green leaves glistening under its red and orange rays, were mesmerising. He stood rooted to the spot till the sun finally set. “Oh, this is a nice place. I will camp here tonight”, he thought.

The next morning, he woke up to the chirping of birds. This was unlike the usual “Good morning sir, your tea is ready”, he heard every day. He simply sat watching birds, butterflies and squirrels move past. Surrounded by nature, he felt calm. All this made him think about his home which had huge trees in the garden, a balcony on the second floor offering the sunset and sunrise view, and numerous birds which visited the tree house in his garden. Why had those things never made him happy in the past?

Bakshi Babu spent the whole day wondering why he had to travel all the way to finally become happy!! He thought about his usual routine and humdrum tasks. Then suddenly he realized that happiness lies within and around us. We simply become too involved in our daily lives and fail to enjoy the smaller and joyous moments of life. He remembered how every morning he busily made business calls from his balcony, and missed out on the sunrise. Walking to his car, traversing the garden, he often shooed the sparrows away, and hurried to work.  No wonder, he was never happy. He was searching for happiness from things he could buy, while he neglected the true gifts of God.
